润 (rùn) — smooth, lustrous, with a jade-like sheen;
微 (wēi) — subtle, understated, delicate.
In the Yixing teapot community, this term is used to describe:
exceptionally fine surface finishing;
a soft, natural luster of the clay (not artificially polished to a mirror finish);
a delicate, pleasant tactile texture.
Bao Tai (薄胎, Báo Tāi)
This is a professional term in Yixing ceramics.
薄 (báo) — thin;
胎 (tāi) — the ceramic body (wall thickness) of the teapot.
Bao Tai refers to a thin-walled teapot.
Such a teapot:
is lighter in weight;
responds more quickly to temperature changes;
requires exceptional craftsmanship, as the thin walls are much more prone to deformation or cracking during firing.
